Why is it that to ask for money as a gift is considered 'Tacky' or in poor taste by majority of people in the western culture. Historically, in many great cultures around the world it is traditional and universally accepted to give money gifts on occasions especially on a Wedding Ceremony. Like every thing else it is controversial only when few people practice the tradition but when it is widely accepted it becomes a norm.
At one time wedding registeries were considered "Poor Taste" as well, today they are an integral part of the wedding process. what makes it "Poor Taste" is that most people shy away from the sticky subject of money.
